The Story Of Crocodile Mick's

Crocodile Mick’s is a small, family business. German Jack, who was a founder first started back in the 1950’s working the top end of Australia and Papua New Guinea as a Crocodile Hunter, Jack was working from the Fly River in New Guinea, to the Northern Territory through to Queensland in the skin market only. It was in New Guinea where Jack learnt the art of taxidermy of crocodiles; he started because they had an abundance of small animals, which never fetched much on the skin market due to their size. This encouraged Jack to venture out into the value adding of crocodiles. There was more money in doing the small croc’s as stuffed croc’s, so he did some investigation on the basic taxidermy of them, worked out his formulas and proceeded. His first few were pretty rough back then according to him, but it’s like everything, the more you do, the better you get, he was a true craftsman when it came to crocodiles.

So it wasn’t long before the German had it down pat and was stuffing up to half a dozen, two to three foot crocs per day. He meet Mick Pitman around the late 70’s and took him as his new apprentice. Jack taught Mick the trade of creating fine leather and products from the crocodile. Together they worked on producing the best quality crocodile leather in a natural way.

They did not use any chemicals in making the leather,  only using bush bark to tan the crocodile skins.

The German had a real passion for the crocodile, for many years they hunted together and produced products in the bush, where they lived in  very hash conditions. The German adopted Mick like his own and they were very close, right up until 1990 when the German made a trip on his own to town and was murder for two cartoons of beer at the stubby hut in Weipa Queensland.

"He is sadly missed by all that knew him. "

Mick promised the German that he would continue on their work, and went  it alone after the German was murdered. Mick producers some of the best crocodile taxidermy in the world. He is the leader in  producing crocodile skins naturally tanned ~ with out using harmful chemicals. This is a process that  is sort after world wide. Mick uses Australian bush barks to tan his crocodile skins. All his crocodile products are hand crafted, each one is a unique piece of artwork by true a craftsman.
